Our pet.... Koi Fish

Koi are often mistaken for gold fish, but they actually are not. You see, Koi fish is actually a mutated form of carp. That’s right: carp, which is an edible fish, actually color-mutated into the Koi fish we now know about. In fact, the Japanese word “Koi” translates into carp. The ornamental fish we now know as Koi is actually properly labeled as Nishikigoi. The Japanese add the word Nishiki in order to describe the ornate patterns and colors of the ornamental Koi.

There are actually different varieties of Koi fish, from gold to red to white, the colors and patterns of different Koi actually make Koi keeping an art. Nevertheless, people still insist on calling Koi “gold fish”. This is because of the fact that many patterns of Koi actually look like those of gold fish.Koi fish actually needs very little care in order for them to live. In the wild, Koi fish lives abundantly, actually becoming destructive to many local ecosystems. Many people think that it is difficult to keep Koi fish alive. Breeders all over the world have written different papers expounding on the different essentials of keeping Koi fish alive.

What many people fail to realize is the fact that ornamental Koi fish lives on the mercy of their owners. You see, keeping Koi fish in a pond means that they are in a closed ecosystem. The normal things that Koi fish needs to live are denied to them. By keeping Koi fish in a pond, you are actually teaching and forcing them to depend on you.

Wild Koi fish lives through the grace of the earth. These Koi fish lives out of their natural ecosystems and they survive day by day because of their natural instincts. nature has made Koi a very hardy fish, able to survive all over the world. However, those skills are useless in captivity.
